Werner Family History
Recorded in many forms including the English Warner, the German Werner and Wernher, and the French Garnier and Guernier, this most interesting surname has two possible derivations. Firstly, it may be of Old German origin, derived from a personal name composed of the elements "warin", meaning guard and "heri or hari", an army. This name was 'adopted' by the Norman-French, who introduced it into England after the Conquest of 1066. Secondly, the surname may be a contracted form of "Warrener", a topographical name for someone who lived by a gamepark; or an occupational name for someone employed in one.Select Audience

Dori Lucas
My Grandmother's birth name was Anna May Werner. She was born in 1922, Cincinnati, Ohio at St. Joseph Mother and Infant Asylum. Her birth mother was an unmarried Irish immigrant who became pregnant by the man she worked for. We suspect that her name was also Anna May Werner.
She was adopted in 1925 and her name was changed to Marjorie Rose Smith.
We have always known about her Irish mother, but recent DNA tests proved our Irish heritage to be true. My Grandmother was a lively, petite, fiery red head. She was married 4 times, worked as a barmaid, singer and dancer and could drink and curse a sailor under the table. She was a character for 94 years and just passed away on January 7, 2016.
My husband and I are traveling to Ireland for our
